农历新年

为了让两个小女儿对华人传统文化和习俗更加了解,我让她们一起帮忙布置住家,迎接农历新年。她们帮忙贴剪纸,为银柳绑上红包纸,并插上转运竹,帮得不亦乐乎。

Papa is back!

After 3 weeks in cold and grimy Switzerland, Ben is back in cold and rainy Singapore! We got up bright and early to pick him up at the airport at 630am. The girls were so excited about seeing him again that they were already awake at 5am in the morning!

Once back home, it was gift-revealing time for all of us. Check them out.

Teaching

I went to school today, feeling blue, that it is the start of a work week and that Yan still cried when I dropped her off at school. It didn't help that my last Friday's morning class was unresponsive and irked me off with their devil-may-care attitude.

So there I was, trudging through the early part of class this morning, when 2 students of mine walked in with a can of iced coffee for me. That simple little gesture, brightened up my day. And for the rest of the morning, the class was responsive, laughed at my lame attempts at jokes and asked me personal questions. They showed they treated me as a friend, and not just a teacher.

This is the instant gratification that my previous job could never offer.

Yan hates school

This came as quite a shock to me. Yan, who is usually bubbly and enthusiastic about going to school, is hating school now. She will cry every night and insists she does not want to go to school alone. She wants her jiejie or auntie or me to go with her. She tells me she doesn't like K1 and doesn't like to attend full day session. I am at my wits' end trying to convince her that school is good for her. I hope this is a temporary phase.

Sea Shell Painting

Ben is away on a business trip so there is nobody to play rough and tumble with the girls. I substituted it with a sea shell painting session. The girls had collected the seashells from Jimbaran Beach at our recent Bali trip. We will wait for them to dry before making some craft with them later.

Bo Gey

Rui is bo gey, thanks to a lower front tooth that fell out while she was drying herself with a towel after bathing. She seemed very pleased with it. I think she regarded it as a rite of passage out of babyhood.

Says who P1 has no homework?

Rui's first "serious" piece of homework

Rui's first day at SNGS

Rui started her first day at P1 on 4 Jan 2011. I was so excited I couldn't sleep well the night before, waking up  countless times to check the time. Ben was equally emo. He kept staring at Rui in her uniform and letting out wistful sighs. I guess, both of us are just very touched to see our little girl all grown up and ready to tackle the world.

It was a great first day. Rui enjoyed her school life thoroughly and is excited about everything the school has to offer, even homework!
