DIY Art Lesson

Rui has been bugging us to send her to art class. We did a trial one at Turf City at $40 per session. Quite steep for a 1 hour session I must say. But the after products looked fantastic and the girls had great fun.

However, as we could not find a good time slot to fit in regular art classes, we convinced her that her papa will be her art teacher instead and we will do art lessons at home every weekend. To prove to her (and ourselves) that we are serious about this, Ben and Rui went to Art Friend to purchase the complete set of acryllic paints, paintbrushes, drawing blocks, pencils and other accessories.

We had our first DIY art lesson last Sunday. Here's the result of the first lesson. Not too bad eh?

Art Garden

Singapore Art Museum @8Q is holding a very interesting children's event, Art Garden, in conjunction with Children's Season at the Museums. For $10 per adult, you get to bring the children in for free, to see the various displays and get to learn concepts such as symmetry, colour combinations, plant life cycles in an interactive way.

We enjoyed ourselves so much we may go back again one of these days. Maybe on a Friday evening when adults get to go in for free too!

My favourite breakfast places

One of the reasons why I love weekends is because I can take my breakfasts leisurely instead of gobbling it down in a mad rush.

My current 2 favourite breakfast places are Tion Bahru Market and Simply Bread at Six Avenue.

Tiong Bahru Market is famous for dishes such as pig offal soup, chwee kway, porridge and many more. When I go there for breakfast, I will definitely order some teochew kway for myself and some porridge for the girls. These are usually washed down with a cup of kopi or kopi-o and at times when I am really famished, I will even order some tau huay. Yummy!

Simply Bread serves some delicious freshly baked breads. I will just order toast (usually ciabatta bread) and eat it with butter and jam. Ben will have his usual eggs and bacon.

Any more good breakfast places to recommend?

Art and Craft at Home

Some snapshots of the girls doing art and craft at home. Notice the momma is never involved? I am hopeless at art. : )

Vesak Day - Outing to Labrador Park

We were running out of ideas for outdoor venues for an outing on Vesak Day holiday. Since we have never been to Labrador Park (other than for wedding shots years ago), we decided to check that place out.

We managed to find a shady spot where we sat down and enjoyed bee hoon breakfast. The children enjoyed the playground that was shaped like a ship. There were pockets of people fishing, picniking or simply enjoying the sea breeze. We concluded Lab Park was a much shadier place than Botanical Gardens, which is a big plus given this blistering heat.

I was glad we decided to give Labrador Park a "chance". It was a good change from the usual Botanical Gardens or East Coast Park.

The Gruffalo

We went to see The Gruffalo with the following:
Hay, Darren, Dylan, Aunt V, Jeremiah, Justin (Dylan's cousin) and Jerald (Dylan's cousin). Aunt Amy and Zach went along too but were seated some distance away from us.

The play was fun to watch. Some bits were witty enough to make even the adults laugh out loud.

After that, all 11 of us packed into Uncle KL's car and headed off to Aunt V's place for swim and dinner. That we could pack all 11 people in was quite an amusing feat!
