Our good helper Auntie Narti will be heading home to Indonesia this end June. She has been with us for over 3 years and she has been a great help to the family. She cooks our meals, cleans our house, adores the little ones (esp Yan since she has been her charge since Yan was few months old). Although we will miss her greatly, we know she has to go home to fulfill her family obligations.
We have been trying to break the news of Narti's pending departure to Rui for the longest time. Each time we mentioned that Narti is leaving, Rui will whine and insist against it. Last weekend though, we brought the subject up seriously to her. We told her that like her other friends' aunties, Auntie Narti has to go home to take care of her own kid. We promised her that the new Auntie ,who is Narti's friend, will be just as good a cook and as reliable a helper. Upon hearing that, Rui teared a little. She said "Then the new auntie will also go next time." We agreed that the new auntie may also leave us in the future. However, Papa and Momma will always be with her and Yan. Rui slowly accepted the fact but insisted that Narti must pass on all her cooking skills to the new auntie, esp that of her fave dish, the sotong dish.
Later that night, before dozing off to sleep, Rui asked Papa "Can we not have new auntie? We can ask Narti to write down how to cook the sotong on paper and then Momma can cook?" It was funny that she has been thinking about this issue and has been coming up with solutions of her own. It's also bittersweet.
That's life, isn't it? People come into your lives, leave their marks and then leave. When they leave, you feel sad, but are glad that your paths have crossed.
We wish Auntie Narti all the happiness and good luck in her life ahead.
